Eating Disorders and Disordered Eating: Prevention and Recovery

Douglas College (Canada) Continuing Education offers an online certificate course for health care professionals or researchers involved in or interested in eating disorders. Professor C. Laird Birmingham wrote and teaches the course that covers all the elements of information about eating disorders with an emphasis on the knowledge that you will need in your day to day work.  To learn about the procedures or to enroll, contact Maria Cordeiro at cordeirom [at] douglas.bc.ca or call 604-777- 6527.

The course is a six month online course (a three month extension can be requested) designed to offer specialized training focused by using individualized assessments for 11 different groups: Dietitians, Mental Health Workers, Nurses, Pastoral Care, Pharmacists, Physicians, Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Recreation Therapists, Researchers/Students, and Social Workers/Family Therapists.

The course is available exclusively over the internet in the WebCT format. The WebCT format only requires that you have a computer with an internet connection. The course content is available in the form of online written text, 22 online movies, all of which can be watched as often as you wish.  The movies explain the more difficult to understand aspects of the course.  The textbook for the course is the Medical Management of Eating Disorders, Cambridge University Press, Birmingham & Treasure 2010.
